Establishment of SWISS MEDTECH

Bern, 12 June 2017 - At their annual general meetings on 12 June 2017, the two largest Swiss medical technology organizations agreed to merge and form the new Swiss Medtech association. The combined activities of FASMED and Medical Cluster will increase the clout of the medtech industry - which is already an important sector for Swiss healthcare and the economy.

The new association represents the interests of around 600 members, 1,350 companies and 54,500 employees. It is committed to ensuring high-quality, safe and timely patient care, to maintaining the competitive and innovative power of the industry, and to strengthening the domestic market. Swiss Medtech's Managing Director is Peter Biedermann. Urs Gasche, National Council, and Rubino Mordasini will act as co-presidents in an executive board made up of eight members from industry, medicine, and science. Experts from member companies will form 20 Specialist Groups to develop strategies, solutions, and reaction statements on sector-relevant issues. A key project over the next few years will be the introduction of two new EU regulations - MDR and IVDR - and the related close collaboration with various federal authorities.
